CardBoard City
Cardboard city is a fundraising event that shines a light on substandard housing issues and homelessness. Participants work in teams to raise money, which all goes towards Eastern CT Habitat for Humanity. The night of the event, students stay up all night, playing games and learning about homelessness in places in our own neighborhoods. Teams compete to build a cardboard house that is livable, while also experiencing what a homeless person may have to do every night to find shelter.
As students, we aren't always aware how difficult it may be to be homeless, especially in our Oct/Nov temperatures at night! This event spreads awareness while also bringing in students to enjoy all that Habitat is.
