Habitat for Humanity seeks to eliminate poor housing and homelessness around the world. To accomplish this, volunteers partner with families in need to build housing that is safe, decent and affordable.
At UConn Habitat for Humanity, we have three main goals:
- Raise funds to donate towards habitat construction projects
- Educate our community about homelessness and sub-standard housing
- Send volunteers to work with community parters on builds
These aims reflect the priorities of Habitat for Humanity International
Habitat for Humanity is not a give-away program. To become eligible for a house, potential homeowners invest hundreds of hours in local builds and complete a series of money management classes. Once these steps have been taken, homeowners take advantage of the affordable loans offered by Habitat to pay their monthly mortgage and build a new life. These payments are then put towards future Habitat projects.
